New kids on the block, Puglian Pleasures, offer a number of alternative tours. Last October we took guests to the Wine Tasting and Lunch event. We met our hosts at a petrol station and followed them through the countryside to La Pruina vineyard.
We were given a brief introduction to the types of grapes grown, the methods used and the wines made before walking through the olive groves. La Pruina is family owned and our event was hosted by husband and wife team who manage the business.
The wines are organically produced, using environmentally friendly methods. We tasted a very nice rosato and an excellent red while watching Mamma demonstrate making pasta. The more adventurous had the opportunity to try their hand at making the pasta.
Under the shade of the olives with seats made from straw bales we enjoyed a simple lunch of home made pasta (just like Mamma made) followed by meatballs and finishing up with fresh fruit.
The highlight of the event was the arrival of the entertainment. Traditonal music and dancing from Puglia, guests are encouraged to join in.
This is a great introduction to the food, wine and traditions of Puglia for new visitors to Puglia.
